“Sunflower Box” features a lid ornamented with a sunflower motif in relief, and an indented bottom featuring a star in relief. His designs are inspired by the natural grain and pattern of the individual blocks of wood he uses, making each piece organic and unique.
Intriguing dining table by artist & designer Albert Palsy, dated 1981. Paley’s sculptural practice developed out of his jewellery-making and goldsmithing, and a similar sensibility and intricacy is easily salvageable even in larger scale works such as this; where forged steel coils are pressed together in a surprising new and agile language as loops — reflective of loops of rope or cable — subtly support the clear glass tabletop surface. Elegant tall vase in Jugendstil (German Art Nouveau) style, the WMF (Wüttermburgische Metallwarenfabrik) was renowned for its cohesion in combining the philosophy of the art with an industrial manufacturing. This piece with its simple plantlike copper decoration and hammered and burnished brass body would likely have been designed under sculptor & then director of the WMF art studio Albert Mayer around 1900. Ostrich stamp/I Excellent patina. Overlay intact, all rivets are present.
