Eugène Pierre Selmersheim, born in 1869 and died in 1941, is a French architect and decorator. He is the son of the architect Paul Selmersheim who was a fervent follower of Eugène Viollet-le-Duc . Impregnated by the art of his childhood, he naturally directs his career towards art. He is brother of Tony Selmersheim (1871-1971), decorator architect, and the husband of the painter Jeanne Selmersheim-Desgrange , with whom he had three children and who will leave him later for Paul Signac.
Walnut pedestal table from architect and designer Selmersheim in the French Art Nouveau style. A circular stepped top is raised above a lower conforming tray and eight surrounding dishes, each with its own supporting branch. The multi-tiered system of supports and tabletops allows for an intricate level of structural detail whilst retaining the smooth and naturalistic overall appearance — classically similar perhaps to the clustered stems of a purpletop vervain flower.
