Title: Deliquescent Dining Table

Artist: David Cruz

Blackman Cruz Workshop USA, 2008 patinated and highlighted bronze, starfire glass With a narrative of coils or tentacle-like movement and fluidity, Cruz’s “Deliquescent Dining Table” balances grace and poise with a brash and vaguely uneasy exotic estrangement. A use of shell or wavelike motif seems referential to the stylings of Rococo and Baroque furniture, and the overall form takes on a figural silhouette not altogether removed from the kind of mythical winged lion or gryphon commonly seen within those eras. Such flamboyance is offset and balanced by the dulled patina applied to the surface of the bronze, and the sleek contemporary starfire glass tabletop. This is number twenty-six of an edition of fifty from the Blackman Cruz Workshop. The Blackman Cruz Workshop Deliquescent table has its roots firmly planted in the jocular stylings of the Rococo. The table presents a graceful fluidity that exudes sculptural confidence. Its unending shell-like curves that highlight the unique patina of this example underline the flamboyant nature of the piece. Louis XV would have been proud. - Adam Blackman This work is number twenty-six from the edition of fifty. Stamped with manufacturer's mark and numbered to base: [Blackman Cruz 26/50]. ***RESHOOT?
